Hi Unity Users! This week’s digest includes numerous upgrades and changes to Unity and a new AI chatbot on the Unity website…
👀 New Upgrades & Changes to Unity
We implemented many changes and upgrades to Unity following our annual maintenance period!
- Upgraded to a 100 Gbit firewall (previously 5 Gbit)
- Upgraded Open OnDemand to the latest version and upgraded Slurm to Version 25.11
- Increased the number of login nodes from 4 to 8
- Enabled large VRAM GPU job reaping for jobs with idle GPUs for over 2 hours
We also removed the need for QOS “long”, and general queues are now 14 day limits. Please only request the time you truly anticipate your job needs to ensure Slurm functions better for everyone
If any Unity services are not working as expected following the maintenance period, email hpc@umass.edu or send a message in the Unity Community Slack’s #help-desk channel.
💬 New AI Chatbot on Unity Website
Explore our new AI chatbot, the Unity HPC Documentation Assistant, on the Unity website! The chatbot assists users in navigating Unity’s documentation and generates answers to Unity-related questions by sourcing relevant documentation.
🧑💻 Submit a Proposal for Harmony User Apps
We are now accepting proposals for user apps to be hosted on Harmony, a new Kubernetes cluster for research computing. If you have an app you would like to host, submit the Harmony app request form.
Examples of user apps include a systems biology resource for Caulobacter crescentus, and a dashboard for local air quality data over time from different sensors
